There is much to celebrate about the recently completed Alabama Damage Prevention Summit held in Orange Beach at the Perdido Beach Resort.
One of the water operator attendees was heard to say, “I always learn something new when I attend the Summit and this one was the best one so far.” The workshops were lively and feedback plentiful. Folks not attending the workshops divided into two groups. One group found themselves losing balls at the Lost Key Golf Club and
the other group went fishing. Stories of sharks jumping out of the water snatching trophy catches off the lines were heard echoing in the Resort lobby. One such angler was overheard to say,
“that’s the truth... if I ever told it.” I don’t know the odds of a fisherman telling the truth, but I do know that the first day was a fun day to network and catch up with old friends and make new ones.
A full exhibit hall with new sponsors and exhibitors coupled with those who’ve continue to support Alabama 811 and the Summit made for a loud and fun experience. Door prizes were plentiful, and winners were not hard to find. A new tradition began this year. A custom made “Alabama 811” hard hat will be given as a door prize annually during the reception in the exhibit
hall. The winner of the hard hat this year was Alabama PSC employee Felisa Webster. Congratulations Felisa!
Platinum sponsors for this year’s event included Alabama 811 and Progressive Partnering. Gold sponsors were ACTS Now, Inc and USIC. Silver sponsors
this year were Alabama Rural Water Association and Southern Natural Gas. Bronze sponsors were Alabama Power, KorTerra, Utility Training Academy and Compliance Envirosystems. Reception sponsors included Alabama Rural Water Association, Equipment Controls Company and Linde. The drink sponsor for this year’s event was Cox Utility Services Inc.
Exhibitors this year were 4iQ Solutions, 811 Magazines, Alabama 811, Alabama Public Service Commission, Alabama Rural Water Association, Badger Daylighting, Compliance
