NOew Faces in Damage Prevention in Alabama
ver the last year, Alabama 811 has added two additional positions within our management organization, GIS Specialist and Member Services Manager.
Andrew Maxwell, GIS Specialist, began working with Alabama in June 2020 - right as everything moved virtual - so he had a unique new employee orientation experience, but he has not let that slow him down one bit! Andrew is responsible for assisting new and existing members with creating and maintaining their service areas for excavation notifications. Another area of his many responsibilities is maintaining the landbase data utilized in Alabama 811’s internal mapping system which is used to determine where an excavation is taking place. Both of these are critical parts of our operation. The information obtained by the excavator is noted on the internal mapping database and then cross referenced against a member’s notification service area to determine which utilities should be notified to respond.
From an early age, Andrew has been using maps to plan outdoor adventures which led him to an interest in forestry and GIS. Andrew graduated from Auburn University and was one of the first graduates in the new curricular program “Geospatial and Environmental Informatics”. When not busy improving Alabama 811’s operations, you can find Andrew hosting his outdoor program, The Southern Outdoorsmen. Check it out at www.thesouthernoutdoorsmen.com!
Emily Roberts is the newest member of the Alabama
811 team having just started June 1, 2021. As the Member Services Manager, she will be working closely with our utility members and the excavating community to ensure their success in damage prevention. Her first major task will be working with potential new members to make their transition into the Alabama 811 program efficient and timely. Emily may not be a new face to many of our current and future members. Prior to joining Alabama 811, she was the Trimble MGIS representative for Navigation Electronics, Inc. She worked with many utilities across the state and spoke on the importance of accurately mapping above and below ground assets.
During her professional career, Emily has worked on various natural gas pipeline projects. Her firm belief in safety culture was grown and cultivated by not just the programs created by companies such as Kinder Morgan or Enbridge but also the daily actions of her coworkers and managers.
An interesting fact about her is that she graduated with
a BFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design. Although, she has not worked in the photography industry for years, her background in the arts has come into play throughout her career. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, metal detecting and spending time with friends as well as her dog, Charlie.
